Inspiration

The inspiration for "Stranger" came from the real-life stories of acid attack survivors across India, especially hearing about their resilience and hope amidst unimaginable pain. Witnessing activists like Laxmi Agarwal and support organizations such as Sheroes Hangout brought to light the incredible strength and determination of women who refuse to let violence define them. The project aims to amplify their voices, raise awareness, and use rap music—deeply rooted in expressive, socially-conscious storytelling—to spark change and challenge stigma.

What it does

"Stranger" shares the journey of a survivor navigating the aftermath of an acid attack—the loss, the struggle, and the determination to find hope again. The project isn’t just a music video; it’s a heartfelt tribute to the strength of survivors and a protest against the silence around gender violence.

It aims to make viewers feel, think, and talk—to help people understand what survivors go through, how society reacts, and why empathy and action matter. By showing not just the darkness, but also the light that follows, "Stranger" encourages everyone to support and stand up for those fighting this battle every day.

How we built it

I started with writing powerful rap lyrics about acid attacks and survivor strength. When I looked for scenarios and depth, I turned to ChatGPT, expecting I’d just copy and paste the results. But I quickly realized that wasn’t enough—I wanted real emotion, not just words on a screen. That led me to shape the story to feel genuine, with layers of metaphor and symbolism that bring Astha’s journey to life. Music was generated by ElevenLabs music.

For the visuals, I used Veo, LTX Studio, Hailuoai and Luma Labs, which let me blend traditional Indian colors and motifs with dramatic, modern scenes. Getting the lip sync right was important for bringing the rap to life, so I used Syn.so and Dreamina for that part. The process became much more about crafting feeling and presence than just assembling a video—I aimed to make each scene connect and every lyric matter. Doing everything solo gave me freedom to experiment and push until "Stranger" truly reflected the story I wanted to tell.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge was dealing with the sensitive and controversial nature of my video’s topic. Sometimes, Veo wouldn’t generate the visuals I wanted—either due to content policies or AI limitations—which forced me to compromise and rethink many scenes. I constantly had to balance honesty with respect, and at times, I had to adapt my vision to what was technically possible.

Lip sync brought another layer of frustration. Getting the rap to match Astha’s emotions and expressions was tricky, and the tools weren’t always as accurate as I’d hoped. I had to try, tweak, and retry until it finally worked. These roadblocks slowed me down, but also pushed me to be more creative in finding solutions that still felt true to the message.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud that I didn’t settle for a generic music video—I built a project with meaning and heart, not just visuals and words. I wrote lyrics that matter, crafted a story that carries emotion, and found creative ways to express tough topics even when the tools set limits. Despite compromises and technical frustrations, I finished a video that makes people feel and reflect.

The biggest win is knowing I gave voice to a story that needs to be told. Doing everything solo, from writing and scenario-building to editing, lip syncing, and visual design, pushed me to grow as a creator and storyteller.

What I learned

I learned that storytelling isn’t easy—it takes much more than just writing lyrics or generating scenes with AI. Every emotion, every symbol, needs thoughtful planning and genuine intent. This project taught me a lot about how to craft prompts and guide AI tools so they reflect the story I have in mind, instead of just churning out generic content.

I realized the importance of empathy, perseverance, and adaptability—especially when the topic is sensitive or controversial. Most of all, I gained a deeper respect for survivors and their journeys, and for the real effort it takes to tell stories that matter.

What's next for Stranger – An Awakening Rap Against Acid Attacks

I want to take “Stranger” beyond just this music video. My next steps are to share it with organizations and communities working on gender violence issues, hoping it sparks meaningful discussions, workshops, and collaborations. I’d like to explore making more content—maybe interviews with survivors, creating open-source visual assets for other creators, or even organizing awareness campaigns with schools and colleges.

Technically, I’m interested in refining the creative process, trying new tools for even richer storytelling and stronger emotional impact. Most importantly, I hope “Stranger” encourages others to tell their own stories and stand up for change, so the voices of survivors grow louder and more united.
