Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from the Shrek 2 movie, providing inspiration for the first cinematic of the game. Another source of inspiration was regular fairytales, which helped us create a story that aligned with not only the theme but also with our whole story.
What it does
This game is meant to connect the player and the character emotionally, putting the player in the character's shoes. The goal of the game is to save your planet from the endlessly-cloning colonizers from taking over your planet. The character uses elemental magic from the home planet to try and keep the cloning enemies at bay.
How we built it
Unreal Engine was used to create the core game, seamlessly mixing models and effects to create one cohesive game. Blender was used to create some of the models seen in-game. Canva was used to create the details seen on the first cinematic shot in the book's pages. CapCut was then used to blend all of the recordings of the Unreal Engine gameplay into one amazing video.
Challenges we ran into
Time was an incredible challenge. With other plans pushing into this project, this project already needing lots of time due to the high quality graphics that must be rendered, and the amount of mechanics, all hindered the time that we had.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Going back on the last one, time management is a key accomplishment for us. Fitting incredible amounts of work into less than 30 hours is an amazing feat.
What we learned
Our Unreal Engine teammate learned how to use the camera in Unreal Engine to make cinematic scenes such as the one seen first in the video. Our Blender person learned how to use keyframes to animate objects without rigging them. Our Canva person learned how to use it's elements to our advantage, using proper elements in the right time to create amazing details.
What's next for Mission Replica
This game could be expanded on to create a more engaging storyline, more side quests, and better quality graphics and mechanics. On the other hand, if this doesn't happen, the project still provides amazing ideas and insights for future projects and games that may be made, taking ideas from this one.
