Inspiration

Throughout my childhood,I had dreamt of becoming an author or storyteller and share stories and touch the reader's heart. With the boom of technologies and my growing intrest towards it,I found my next passion which was engineering. Through this hackathon,I got an apportunity to do something which could potentially revolutionize the storytelling industry.Common people like myself could share raw and real stories which could be read by potentially thousands of users with the same passion towards stories without charging a single penny, and since the cost of printing is reduced more people ccould turn towards this slowly decling job which is storytelling.

What it does

StoryTeller is a storytelling platform which currently has the feature to sign in through google. If a user does not want to signin,he/she could still read the stories but to to create or delete their story, the user has to sign-in using their google account. The web application also has a a option to contact the the developer(Contact-Us page). The web-application has a really feel good UI without any unnecessary animations. It is easy to navigate for the user to browse through all the features of this project.

How we built it

I have used React.js(Frontend),Firebase(Backend)Javascript,CSS3(styling) and html to make this project. I have also took the help of stackoverflow and dribble for UI inspirations

Challenges we ran into

I had zero knowledge of firebase before starting this project so learning firebase in such a short time was a very challenging part I faced while making this project.I also took quite some time to make my home page(where the posts are shown). The post size is not constant so the padding of the post(story) is according to the number of lines of story which the user has typed. that is shorter stories will have less padding and bigger story will have bigger padding

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning firebase in a day is something I am proud of.Apart from that I am also proud of doing something which I really believe in i.e telling stories.Althought I could'nt follow my passion of becoming a storyteller I feel proud that I have tried my best to make an application which could be used by common people like me and give them a platform to share their stories.

What we learned

Being my first ever hackathon,i learned to work in a time constraint.I also learned to be flexible.I started my project initially with mongodb but later shifted to Firebase for backend because it just wasn't possible for me to learn mongoDB,node, express, etc in a single day.I started learning firebase.I learned how to make a .env file to safeguard my api key. This project improved my UI skills and I look forward to participate in many more hackathons

What's next for StoryTeller

While researching for this project I found that Storytelling Industry is one of the few industries which is not yet touched by technology.Apart from some big companies like kindle, there is not much application to share stories.Kindle is widely used but the two major problem of using it is that 1.It is expensive 2.you do not get the money you should get because Kindle takes a proportion of money of author as a compensation charge here's where StoryTeller comes into play.I dont want any compensation money from the user and since it is a web application,it is free to use. Apart from the buisness prospect,I have to make this website responsive and add a feature to update the stories.PS:-I wasn't able to do these due to time constraints.
