🌍 About the Project

💡 Inspiration

Climate change is one of the most pressing threats facing our world today. However, many people—especially children—struggle to understand its complexity and urgency. Our team was inspired by the idea that stories can make science relatable. We wanted to create a platform where people of all ages could learn about climate change in an accessible, engaging, and meaningful way.

The tipping point came when we realized that despite all the scientific data available, there was still a major gap in awareness. We asked ourselves: What if we could turn facts into stories? That’s when Story Writers was born—a digital project that combines storytelling, science, and technology to promote climate awareness.

🧠 What We Learned

Throughout this project, we learned how to:

  • Break down scientific concepts into simple, engaging formats for diverse audiences.
  • Use artificial intelligence tools to enhance content creation, from writing and design to video production.
  • Collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical domains, including development, storytelling, and outreach.
  • Understand the importance of data accuracy, especially when working with topics as critical as climate change.

We also gained insights into how to build partnerships, promote nonprofit initiatives, and design products that create real-world impact.

🛠️ How We Built It

We developed:

  • A website and mobile app using HTML, CSS, SASS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, and React.js.
  • Content divided into three sections:
    • History: A timeline of climate change from ancient times to the present.
    • Science: Data, evidence, and future projections based on climate models.
    • Stories: Interactive narratives and animated videos to educate children.

We also used several AI tools:

  • A language model for idea generation and content editing.
  • An AI-powered video creation tool to animate stories.
  • Design platforms with AI features to polish our visual presentation.

🚧 Challenges We Faced

  • Audience segmentation: Creating content suitable for both children and adults required careful planning and testing.
  • Technical hurdles: Integrating animations and interactive elements without slowing down performance was a constant challenge.
  • Data verification: Ensuring our scientific data was accurate led us to form a partnership with Gharbiya MUN, which provided access to reliable UN statistics.
  • Funding & hosting: As a nonprofit project, we faced initial limitations in domain hosting and tech support until Gharbiya Hack Club supported us with technical resources and a free domain.

Story Writers is more than a project—it's a movement. We believe that informed communities are empowered communities. By combining storytelling and science, we hope to inspire action and awareness for a healthier planet.
