Inspiration
Every child learns differently. Young children often learn best through stories, pictures, and playful activities, while school students may need engaging explanations and practice to understand more complex concepts.
This inspired us to create Story Teacher, an AI-powered learning companion designed for learners from playschool to Class 12. Our goal is to make learning more engaging, personalized, and accessible by transforming educational concepts into stories and interactive learning experiences suited to different ages.
What it does
Story Teacher helps learners explore educational concepts in a fun and interactive way, from early childhood learning to higher-level school subjects.
- Age-appropriate personalized stories: Creates educational stories based on the learner's name, age, and selected topic.
- Visual learning: Uses illustrations and multimedia elements to make concepts easier to understand.
- Interactive activities: Offers quizzes and matching games to encourage active learning.
- Read-aloud support: Helps children engage with stories through audio.
- Learning assessment: Uses quizzes to check understanding and provide feedback.
- Learning reports: Shows quiz scores, concepts understood, and areas that need further practice.
From foundational concepts for young children to more advanced topics for students in Classes 9–12, Story Teacher aims to make learning more engaging and adaptable to learners' needs.
How we built it
We developed Story Teacher as a web-based educational platform with the assistance of Claude, an AI assistant that supported our development process.
We focused on a student-friendly interface that brings together AI-assisted story generation, visual content, interactive assessments, and learning feedback. The experience is designed to support learners across different school-age groups.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was designing a learning experience that could serve children at different stages of their education. A playschool child and a Class 12 student have very different learning needs, language abilities, and levels of understanding.
We also considered how to combine engaging stories with meaningful educational content, interactive assessments, and feedback that helps learners identify topics they may need to practise further.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have developed a learning prototype that brings story-based learning and interactive activities together in one place.
Our key achievement is our vision of making AI-powered learning accessible to a broad age range, from playschool to Class 12, while encouraging curiosity, participation, and better understanding.
What we learned
We learned how AI-assisted development can help transform an educational idea into a working web prototype. We also learned that personalized education involves more than generating content: it requires age-appropriate explanations, engaging activities, assessment, and useful feedback.
What's next for Story Teacher
We aim to make Story Teacher more adaptive by adjusting explanations, stories, and question difficulty according to learners' ages, grade levels, and performance.
Future improvements include tracking topic-wise mastery across sessions, identifying misconceptions, providing targeted revision, supporting multilingual learning, and incorporating textbooks, slides, and lecture videos with source-grounded explanations. We also want to evaluate how effectively Story Teacher supports learning across different age groups.
