Inspiration

The film was inspired by a simple yet powerful question: “What if a wheelchair was not just a limitation, but a gateway to imagination?” During brainstorming, we noticed how often mobility devices are portrayed with sadness. We wanted to flip that narrative—to show how creativity, technology, and empathy can turn something ordinary into something magical. The bond between two children from completely different worlds became the emotional anchor of the story. We were also inspired by the idea that technology becomes meaningful only when it touches the human heart. This led to the subtle integration of VR, symbolizing how imagination can transcend physical boundaries.

What it does

The film turns a simple wheelchair into a gateway to imagination and freedom. It follows a poor boy whose life changes when a rich traveler befriends him. The story blends AI, technology, and emotion to show that limitations can become possibilities. In the end, he learns the real magic came from kindness, hope, and a friend who believed in him.

How we built it

Concept Development We outlined the emotional arc of the poor boy: from despondency → wonder → realization → gratitude. We built the rich boy’s role as a compassionate catalyst. AI Previsualization AI was used to generate concept art and dream-sequence variations. Editing & Music Soft, uplifting tones were selected to reflect the boy’s emotional transformation. Color grading helped distinguish reality (desaturated) vs dream world (warm and vibrant).

Challenges we ran into

We used Veo3 (via Freepik) to generate the majority of the film’s key visual sequences. Achieving frame-to-frame consistency, maintaining character likeness, and capturing the right emotional depth were our biggest challenges. Ensuring that the dream world felt magical—yet emotionally grounded—required multiple iterations and careful prompt work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the limitations of current AI tools, we succeeded in extracting genuine emotional expression from the protagonist. The audience is able to empathize with his journey, feel his hope, and understand his transformation. Creating this emotional resonance through AI-generated imagery is something we are truly proud of.

What we learned

Use of AI tools - we are much more comfortable now using Freepik, Runway and part of Eleven labs.

What's next for SECRET LIFE OF A WHEELCHAIR

The boy to become more confident, assured and uplift himself from his surroundings to lead a richer and more wholesome life and to expand technological reach to delve into its magic for the betterment of humanity and society.
