Inspiration
The inspiration for Story Guardian came from real-life situations where children or family members accidentally shared private content on social platforms. Such moments can cause embarrassment, privacy violations, or even security risks before the account owner notices.
What it does
Story Guardian introduces a new Trusted Guardian Role inside Horizon Worlds. This role allows a pre-assigned family member or close contact to instantly recall or delete a post before it spreads. It provides peace of mind and prevents accidents in VR social spaces.
How we built it
We designed a simple Guardian Panel with two core functions: Delete and Recall. These can be triggered by the Trusted Guardian across devices, with instant synchronization in Horizon Worlds. The project was built as a remixable world, so other creators can reuse and adapt the mechanic.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was translating a privacy-focused family feature into an open-source VR template while keeping it easy to adopt by other creators. Balancing simplicity with effectiveness was key.
Accomplishments we’re proud of
We successfully turned a real-life family need into a VR feature. By making it remixable, the project has potential impact beyond one world, enabling safer environments for families and communities.
What we learned
We learned how important privacy and quick intervention are in immersive spaces. We also learned the value of open-source design to let others build upon our work.
What’s next
We plan to expand Story Guardian with customizable roles (multiple guardians), optional notifications, and analytics to show when and how interventions happened.
