Inspiration
StormSight AI was inspired by the need to make disaster and severe-weather information easier to understand and act on. During emergencies, information can come from multiple sources and be difficult to process quickly. I wanted to build an AI system that could bring live disaster information together and help turn it into clear, actionable guidance.
What it does
StormSight AI is a real-time disaster intelligence assistant. It combines live weather and emergency data with AI reasoning to help users understand potential hazards and recommended safety actions. The interface also includes voice features, location-based functionality, live status information, and detailed or quick views.
How I built it
I built StormSight AI using Python and integrated live data sources including the National Weather Service (NWS) and USGS. For AI reasoning, StormSight connects to Nebius and uses an NVIDIA Nemotron model. The system brings these components together so live information can be analyzed and presented through one interface.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was coordinating multiple live services while keeping StormSight responsive. API response times, location permissions, voice functionality, and handling unavailable data all had to work without causing the application to fail or become misleading.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that StormSight became a working system rather than just a concept. It can work with live information, connect to Nebius, use NVIDIA AI reasoning, provide voice functionality, and communicate system status directly through the interface.
What I learned
Building StormSight taught me how to combine real-time APIs, AI models, voice features, error handling, and user-interface design into one application. I also learned how important reliability and transparency are when AI is being used around emergency information.
What's next for StormSight AI
The next step is expanding StormSight's disaster coverage, improving response speed, adding more reliable data sources, and continuing to improve its location and voice capabilities. The long-term goal is to make StormSight a powerful disaster-intelligence platform that can help people understand dangerous situations faster.
