Inspiration
Many first generation students have drive and passion but lack the guidance and mentorship to execute. However, something as basic as people sharing how they navigated those same experiences could make the difference especially as first generation students.
What it does
Stori is a story sharing app that helps to bridge the knowledge gap for many users that are navigating various events in their life like internships, finances, confidences, etc. We accomplish this by offering the story of someone who went through the same event and experience that users can search through AI powered semantic search.
How we built it
Media Transcription
Through the use of Google Gemini 2.5 Flash we transcribe media files (video, audio, etc.) then we build a brief summary, title, and tags for users to preview and search stories.
Tech Stack
Frontend: Next.js, Tailwind CSS, TypeScript, React Backend: Next.js Database: SQLite, ChromaDB AI: Google Gemini 2.5 Flash
Challenges we ran into
A lot of us we're new to the technologies and frameworks used and figuring out the transcription/summarization of media. This led to a lot of time debugging and learning the technologies just to build an MVP we were proud of.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were really proud to get the transcription feature working and building a product that was functional but also visually appealing. This took a lot of time to figure out while balancing time for ourselves to not get overwhelmed and burnt out but in the end we were able to execute and that a proud moment for us.
What we learned
This was our first time at a hackathon and we learned a lot about what it took to build a product in such a short time frame. There were many things we didn't expect to face, like spending hours debugging but figuring it out and figuring out each others work style was very rewarding in the end.
What's next for Stori
The archive compounds overtime and every story makes it more valuable for the next person.
