Inspiration

All of our group members are first-gen immigrants (children of people who emigrated to another country), so we pulled from personal experiences to design a solution that would make our lives better. Our goal was to build an app that can hopefully bridge the gap between immigrant parents, who have to face the strain of raising a child in a foreign environment, and their children.

What it does

Storge (meaning familial affection in Greek) is an educational app aiming to educate immigrant parents on how to raise their child in multicultural environments. The content shown is tailored to two main factors: the location the child grows up in and the age of the child.

How we built it

Our current submission is a high-fidelity prototype made in Figma.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Parents raising children in multicultural environments will definitely benefit from our solution. Working with actual parents throughout the design process was also a very rewarding experience. We hope our app reflects the passion and energy we felt working towards this project.

What we learned

Parenting is tough! Many immigrant parents have to navigate a whole new environment, all while raising kids who will oftentimes disagree with their views (definitely not us...).

The fact that every family is in a different situation, both economically and geographically, means that you can't just buy a "How To Raise Your Child" book and expect to be a pro-parent.

What's next for STORGE

We believe that we nailed our fundamental concept with STORGE, given the amount of time we had. There will definitely be room to fully flesh out STORGE into a fully developed digital experience, consult professionals, interview more parents...

How could we integrate STORGE into other devices? How do we ensure community feedback is high-quality?
