Inspiration
We are inspired from what we experienced ourselves and seen in the people around us. There have been many times when we wanted something because it was popular and the new, fancy thing to have, only to use it for a total of one week. We realized that people need to be more mindful of what they are buying, as impulse shopping is a big cause of this issue, so we wanted to create an application that would help people with their impulse shopping.
What it does
Our app has 3 features, the user info feature, the wishlist feature, and the buy item feature. The user info feature uses the user's current spending amount and goal to calculate a budget for the user. The budget will decrease every month so the user can reach their final goal in 6 months.
How we built it
We used html, javascript, and css to create our application.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into security issues when trying to call the gemini API. We overcame these issues by changing our application from being a chrome extension to being a website
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our calendar feature, which encourages the user to wait 30 days to buy certain items, to prevent impulse shopping.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to use html to make our layout simple and aesthetically pleasing to users.
What's next for StopTheShop
We want to implement it as a chrome extension, so the buy item feature pops up whenever a use tries to buy anything. This way they have to stop and think about exactly why they want an item before they can purchase it.
