Inspiration
Studies from MIT have shown that disinformation and fake news can spread up to 70% faster than real news over social media platforms such as twitter. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has expressed concern over the effect that this could have on combating the spread of coronavirus. The aim of this game is to teach player to better recognise fake news in a fun way.
What it does
You are in control of government policy in China, and you have a budget of 100 million to spend on your response to the virus.
The user is shown a number of articles in succession and the can choose whether to act on them. If they act on fake news, it will have a detrimental effect on fighting the virus. And if they act on accurate news, this will help in combating the outbreak of the virus.
How we built it
HTML and CSS coding. We used java to model the growth and spread of the virus and to update the economic cost of fighting the virus.
Challenges we ran into
Front-end design was difficult. Since we had no one with relative experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Three of us didn't study computing and between us we were successful in making the model for the virus's spread.
What we learned
Teamwork, Java
