Our Roblox experience involves "obby" (short for obstacle course) oriented gameplay that is centered around the theme of a nuclear reactor disaster. The more team members you have, the more likely you are able to quell this disaster. For this time-critical experience, players will encounter puzzles and they must follow instructions on how to cool the reactor before it melts down.
The experience is open to all ages; by being open to all ages, the experience teaches players how to work in teams, communicate, and problem-solve in limited time.
We used Roblox Studio to build it. We used Roblox's API to learn the different functions and methods that exist in the Lua language.
Some challenges we ran into included the mesh parts. The mesh parts made it so that there were areas where players could not walk through, even though there wasn't a part there. We replaced a few of them with standard brick parts that Roblox provided. We also had an issue where sometimes the code didn't work, so we had to debug.
As a team working in an extremely time-sensitive environment, every action has its own consequence and reward. We are extremely proud as a team for creating a multi-faceted game that incorporates critical decision making, and team-work in a short window of time. Furthermore, we are proud of our unique abilities in scripting, building, and modeling.
We learned about the different methods of solving problems inside of Roblox studio. We also learned that time management is key to build a successful game or project.
We will provide more challenges in the future for players to beat. We will also allow players to spend Roblox's currency, Robux, in order to purchase more revives for when they die. We will also build a community that will help inspire us to create more updates.
