Project Story: Wolfiebot - AI-Powered Virtual Admissions Bot

About the Project

Wolfiebot is an innovative, AI-powered Virtual Admissions Bot designed to revolutionize the college admissions process at Stony Brook University. This project was inspired by the need to simplify and personalize the admissions process for high school students, making it more accessible and less daunting.

Inspiration

The idea for Wolfiebot was born out of a desire to make college admissions more approachable for prospective students. We noticed that many high school students feel overwhelmed by the plethora of information available about college admissions. Wolfiebot aims to provide concise, tailored information, making the process more engaging and less stressful.

What We Learned

Throughout the development of Wolfiebot, our team gained invaluable experience in AI and cloud technologies. We learned to harness the power of OpenAI and Microsoft Azure to create a responsive and intelligent chatbot. Our journey included mastering LangChain, Azure Web App, Blob Storage, Cognitive Search, Vector Database, and Container Registry.

How We Built It

Wolfiebot was built using a combination of OpenAI's advanced AI models and Microsoft Azure's robust cloud services. We integrated LangChain for the AI backend and deployed our bot using Azure services. The process involved setting up a Blob Storage for data management, utilizing Cognitive Search for efficient query handling, and managing our deployments through Azure Container Registry.

Challenges Faced

One of the significant challenges we encountered was ensuring seamless integration of various Azure services. We had to carefully balance the load between AI processing and cloud storage. Another challenge was optimizing the chatbot's response time and accuracy, requiring continuous tweaking and testing.

Conclusion

Developing Wolfiebot has been an enlightening journey. It not only allowed us to delve into the realms of AI and cloud computing but also gave us the opportunity to contribute to making the college admissions process more approachable for students. We're excited to see how Wolfiebot will assist future generations of Stony Brook University applicants.
