Inspiration:
- In light of the COVID situation in our community, we noticed that many shops were running out of stock
- It is often dangerous to go out shopping, as it puts one at risk of illness
- Our app helps people minimizing their risk of illness, by connecting shoppers to vendors
What we’ve learnt:
- We became better at using version control to collaborate remotely
- We needed an open source solution for mapping on our project, so we learnt how to use the Leaflet.js library on the fly
Design Process:
- Ideation - proposing various potential projects, evaluating them before choosing which project to tackle
- Planning - deciding the details, what could be developed and demonstrated within 24h
- Creating - delegated tasks to individual people (integrating the API, designing the UI etc.) and building the project up
- Testing and Debugging - fixing various issues, tweaking UI elements for improved aesthetics
Challenges:
- Finding creative ways to use our mapping library and geospatial data
- Building an application that can scale, and that is viable in the real-world
- Familiarizing ourselves with new tools for development such as react libraries and leaflet.js
