Inspiration

I wanted to build something fun, instantly playable, and different from the typical productivity or dashboard-style hackathon project.

Many web apps solve tasks, but games create a different kind of experience: they invite people to play, retry, compete, and share. That inspired Stoked Surf and Ski — a lightweight browser arcade adventure that lets users jump straight into fast-paced surf and ski challenges without downloads or setup.

The goal was simple:

Build a game people can open and play immediately.

What it does

Stoked Surf and Ski is a browser-based arcade game with surf and ski gameplay modes.

Players can choose different challenge styles and jump into a full-screen arcade experience directly from the web.

Core features include:

• Playable browser-based arcade game

• Surf mode

• Ski mode

• Multiple game modes:

• Endless: travel as far as possible

• Time Trial: reach the end as fast as possible

• Zig Zag: pass through as many gates as possible

• Character controls

• Theme switching

• Fullscreen option

• Share/copy link button

• Responsive layout

• Orientation handling

• Clean full-screen game wrapper UI

The app is designed to feel lightweight, fast, and replayable.

How I built it

I built Stoked Surf and Ski using MeDo.

MeDo helped generate the web application wrapper around the game experience, including:

• Full-screen game layout

• Surf/ski theme switching

• Game mode selector

• Character controls

• Fullscreen functionality

• Share/copy link flow

• Responsive layout and orientation handling

• Clean overlay UI

The app uses a simple arcade-style interaction model: choose a mode, start playing, and try to improve your run.

I focused the build around quick access and replayability. The player does not need an account, setup, or download — they can open the link and immediately start playing.

Challenges

One challenge was making the game feel complete inside a browser app. A game needs more than just the playable area; it needs menus, mode selection, controls, fullscreen behavior, and responsive handling so the experience feels polished.

Another challenge was supporting both surf and ski themes while keeping the interface simple. The goal was to make theme switching feel natural without overcomplicating the game.

A third challenge was making the app work well across different screen sizes and orientations. Since arcade games are visual and movement-based, the full-screen layout and orientation handling were important.

What I learned

This project taught me that MeDo can be used for more than productivity tools, dashboards, or AI assistants. It can also help create interactive entertainment experiences.

I also learned that even a simple browser game benefits from strong product design. Mode selection, fullscreen play, responsive layout, and sharing all make the game feel more polished and replayable.

Accomplishments that I’m proud of

I’m proud that Stoked Surf and Ski is instantly playable and easy to share.

The app includes:

• Multiple game modes

• Surf and ski themes

• Character controls

• Fullscreen play

• Share functionality

• Responsive game layout

• Clean arcade-style interface

The strongest part of the project is its simplicity:

Open the link, pick a mode, and play.

That makes it easy for judges and community members to try immediately.

What's next

Future improvements could include:

• Online leaderboards

• High score tracking

• More characters

• Unlockable boards/skis

• New environments

• Sound effects and music

• Mobile touch controls

• Daily challenges

• Multiplayer races

• Achievement badges

Long term, Stoked Surf and Ski could become a lightweight web arcade game with seasonal maps, community challenges, and competitive leaderboards.
