Inspiration

Our team has been inspired by the financial literacy gap between men and women. A TIAA Institute Financial Literacy study found that women answered an average of only 45% of personal finance questions correctly. We believe that women should have equal financial opportunity as men.

What it does

Our project analyses past stock trends and assists users in making decisions when it comes to buying and selling stocks. It is meant to teach beginners how to understand stock trading.

How we built it

We used CustomVision powered by Microsoft Azure. It is an AI driven Image Recognition which uses Node.js, NextJS, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and hosted and deployed by Vercel. We also utilized MarketAux, an API that has access to the global stock market to give explanations to our userds of recessions and expansions based on historical stock market events.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge we ran into was honing in on one specific prompt. We pitched our ideas to the volunteers to get their advice because we were not sure if we should have a more general approach or focus on remediating a specific problem; The financial literacy gap or caregiving responsibilities. Another problem we had was training the data model because it was very time consuming and finicky, so it took most team members to join the group effort to manually train the model.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are overall proud of our solution because we all believe that it is a really good way to educate our users on stock trends and patterns and learn how to read them. More specifically, we are very proud of our AI Image Processing model and its purpose.

What we learned

Pertaining to the topic, our whole group learned a lot about financial literacy and being aware of the differences in gender within this field. We also learned a lot about the tool of Microsoft Custom AI and feeding data into an AI machine learning model so then it can be able to generate and analyze trend and patterns.

What's next for GrowthSavvy

What’s next for GrowthSavvy? There are a lot of components that we wanted to implement, but just didn’t have enough time. Looking through financial web platforms like RobinHood and Public, the users can maneuver through and look at the timelines of stocks but have to take an extra step in researching the “why’s” of the outcome. Looking into the future, implementing a selection system would be optimal as it would allow users to easily select and ask our financial events API with ease. Additionally, we would want to implement an AI chatbot that can answer any user questions to help educate our consumers financially.
