Inspiration
Managing your kitchen is difficult. Struggle to remember what is in your pantry? Buy too much, or forget an ingredient? Enjoying delicious food at home should not be a hassle.
We want you to:
- Feel in control of your kitchen.
- Know what you have without opening the fridge.
- Cook new dishes and old favourites with what you already have, to fit your mood, without a second grocery trip.
- Easily maintain your grocery lists and know exactly what you need.
What it does
Stockpot is your all-in-one kitchen tool.
- Add and update groceries in plain words.
- See what will expire soon.
- Get recipes based on your shelves and your mood.
- Save your favourite recipes.
- Add a recipe's missing ingredients or used-up items to your shopping list in a click.
- Ask the cook for suggestions in a chat.
- Add kitchen notes to personalize suggestions.
How we built it
Backend
- Python
- FastAPI
- SQLite
Frontend
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
Tools
- Google Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite
Challenges we ran into
- Duplicate items: adding more of an existing item should not create a separate entry.
- Speed: larger models might be more accurate with processing requests, but speed may be slow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The project ties together all parts of a running kitchen: shopping, tracking, and cooking.
- The project is simple and user-friendly.
What we learned
- Small details are necessary for user-friendliness, such as adding Undo options.
What's next for Stockpot
- Nutrition recommendations and tracking.
- Notifications or reminders before food expires.
- Shared kitchens for households and roommates.
- A mobile application.
- Meal planning.
- Voice input and read-aloud recipes.
- Receipt scanning.
- Finding deals for shopping list items.
