Inspiration

Our team has all worked in food service before, so we know how inconvenient running out of supplies is for both managers and employees. We wanted to create a tool that streamlines that data in a convenient, understandable way.

What it does

Stockd helps small food businesses avoid overbuying and underbuying stock. Stockd includes an easy inventory tracker, forecasts demand based on previous data, and provides a to-do checklist while fitting into existing workflows.

How we built it

We extensively planned and discussed features and UX, and utilized Claude Code as well as manual editing to bring our ideas to life. We used MongoDB to store company records, Auth0 for authentication, and Vercel to host.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges we faced were scope and the backend. We would spiral down chains of features we thought were cool before realizing they were superfluous and not necessary to our actual functionality. We also spent multiple hours trying to set up our project on Vercel before switching to AWS, but there were version issues with Docker and EC2, so we had to switch back to Vercel.

What we learned

We learned how to more effectively integrate AI into our workflow while ultimately controlling the vision.
