Inspiration

STØ (AI ShortFilm) was born from the desire to test the real potential of artificial intelligence as a cinematic storytelling tool. The idea was to create a short narrative — emotional and visual — without dialogue, something that could be told entirely through images, rhythm, and atmosphere in less than two minutes.

What it does

The film explores the fine line between illusion and reality, using AI-generated imagery to recreate a cinematic narrative structure that feels handcrafted and emotionally driven. It serves as a proof of concept for how AI can support filmmakers in visual development and storytelling.

How we built it

STØ was created using a combination of Midjourney, Whisk, and Nano Banana for visual generation, with DaVinci Resolve and Photoshop for postproduction. Each shot was designed through cinematic prompt writing, treating text prompts like shot descriptions — including camera angles, lighting, and emotional cues — to emulate traditional film direction.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was working fast without falling into perfectionism. Balancing artistic intent with AI unpredictability required constant iteration. Another challenge was maintaining visual continuity across shots generated in different tools and sessions.## ##Accomplishments that we're proud of We successfully created a visually cohesive, emotionally engaging AI short film that feels cinematic rather than synthetic. STØ stands as an early example of how independent creators can use AI tools to explore narrative and aesthetics with minimal resources.

What we learned

We learned how to structure AI prompts with cinematic language, how to guide generative tools toward emotional coherence, and how to balance speed and artistic control in a fully AI-assisted pipeline.

What's next for STØ (AI ShortFilm)

We’re now submitting STØ to international short film festivals while starting pre-production for a new AI-driven horror short (2–5 minutes) — this time with AI sound design and dialogue, expanding the experiment into the realm of immersive audiovisual storytelling.
