Inspiration

I recently joined the Bolt.new Hackathon with a mission to build something impactful for the African creative community. As someone passionate about fashion and technology, I wanted to create a platform that connects African tailors, designers, and fabric sellers with customers seamlessly. That’s how StitchHub Africa was born—a marketplace where creativity meets commerce

What it does

StitchHub Africa is an online marketplace designed to empower African tailors, fashion designers, and fabric sellers by connecting them directly with customers. Here’s what it offers: Key Features Tailor & Designer Profiles – Creatives can showcase their work, skills, and pricing. Fabric Marketplace – Users can buy high-quality African prints and textiles. Custom Order System – Customers can request bespoke outfits with style preferences. Secure Checkout – A seamless payment process (still integrating fully). My goal: To boost local fashion businesses and make African craftsmanship more accessible worldwide.

How I built it

I built StitchHub Africa using Bolt.new, a powerful tool for rapid development. Here’s how I approached it: Concept & Design – I started by outlining the core features: user profiles, product listings, and a seamless checkout process. Development with Bolt.new – I leveraged Bolt’s intuitive interface to structure the app, integrating key functionalities like authentication and database management. Database Struggles – I attempted to connect Supabase for backend storage but ran into challenges with authentication and data fetching. (Still debugging this!) Prompt Engineering Hurdles – Since Bolt.new relies heavily on AI prompts, refining them to get the exact output I needed was tricky. Iteration was key

Challenges I ran into

Supabase Connection Issues – Still figuring out the best way to sync data properly. Prompt Precision – Sometimes, Bolt.ne’s AI didn’t generate the exact component I wanted, requiring multiple iterations. Time Constraints – Balancing hackathon deadlines with a polished product was tough.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a Functional Prototype in Record Time – Thanks to Bolt.new, we went from idea to MVP in just days. Overcame AI Prompt Challenges – Refined Bolt’s AI-generated code to better match our vision. User-Friendly UI – Created an intuitive interface for both sellers and buyers. Still Improving Finalising Supabase backend integration for real-time data. Adding review & messaging systems for better engagement. This is just the beginning—we’re excited to keep growing.

What we learned

AI-Powered Development – Working with Bolt.new taught me how to effectively use AI to speed up development. Debugging Supabase – I gained insights into backend integrations, even though I’m still resolving some issues. User-Centric Design – Keeping the user experience simple yet functional was a major takeaway.

What's next for StitchHub-Africa

I’m determined to: Fix the Supabase integration for real-time data fetching. Enhance the UI/UX for better usability. Making all buttons readable Add more features like reviews and messaging.
