Inspiration

Our inspiration strived from a simple conversation before the hackathon started. It involved how cars function what tuning modifications are needed and other car shenanigans. Getting to the point, we realized that many people are unsure what exactly is in their car and how to take care of it and/or the most efficient way to resolve it. We wanted to take the anxious away and provide info to new car owners or people that are ignorant. To top it all off, this all derived from my team member Sid Andreano having a Mazda.

What it does

GearFlo helps users find relevant problems/issues to said car. Whether it be a future buy or one that they already made. It has a diagnostic option that finds relevant problems to the car and any recalls to said car. It also has community page that acts similar to reddit. We did this so it would be more ease of use to the user. We also added a Tuning Parts section which gives relevant information on how to add more horsepower to your car and gives level of time and cost and this more or less separates us even more than other diagnostic sites. Finally, the Common Issues is where all creditable diagnostic issues are kept and it provides a severity level, Cost of Repair, Time needed to fix it and more.

How we built it

We built it from Frontend and to Backend first as we wanted it to have a clean feel that attracted users to it. We also wanted it to be easy to navigate so we can later add more mobile versions to it. Then the Backend was more or less of a challenge and honestly still needs more work but are passion lead us here.

Challenges we ran into

We had a tough time with gradients with the AI surprisingly. It always liked blue by default and it was hard to change it to other colors without telling it to do so. Next was the effects and little errors here and there. Some common errors were margin's and formatting. The AI had a hard time doing these for some reason. Lastly the pictures, making it use relevant pictures to whatever said prompt was is downright baffling. I get copyrighting and the law when it comes to pictures and language models but it was unnecessarily strict. Instead we got rid of pictures all together and made sure that the user add more details on the said part rather than a visual.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm more than proud of what are first web application looked like and how it turned out. With what little time we had from constant work and coming home to work on this for only a couple hours and seeing how it turned out was fascinating to me. I'm also proud of the Tuning Parts page. I believe many Car Enthusiasts will enjoy that page and provide with a reliable site for upgrades to their car in the future.

What we learned

We truly learned the power of AI here. It booted up and grabbed all necessary information to make it run in one prompt. Other than that, we learned what it feels like to truly program a reliable site and/or a future enthusiasts site.

What's next for GearFlo

We plan to add an OBD scanner in the future for real-time diagnostics and information to any car. This will also give us reliable data to use and provide a better "picture" to each car. Going on, expanding upon the website and it's key values is necessary. The project needs a lot more work in my eyes but I "feel" like this is just the blueprint.

Updates

posted an update

We have come across some difficulties with Github Pages and learned that it does not support backend apps. We have updated the try it out links to include the github repository with a step by step instructions on how to run the app on a local machine. As well the bolt project link has been included for viewers to directly see the app with no command-line required! Sorry we couldn't get the public link out there but now you can officially "try it out:. More updates soon.

Hello! We noticed the try it out link doesnt work, with supabase integration netlify doesnt work properly so we couldnt use that tool to deploy. On July 2nd, we will update the link to a Github repository deployment link! This way it will be available for all devices to view and not just our local pcs. Sorry for the inconvenience! More updates soon.
