Inspiration

We were inspired by the idea of exploring new places while also gaining insight into the experiences of people in the past. Since each sticky note includes a date, users are able to see how others experienced a location at different points in time, creating a sense of shared history.

What it does

StickyWorld is an application where users can visit places and add sticky notes to a community map, sharing their experiences. Users can customize their notes by adding prompts and categories that a specific place can fall under.Users are also able to view other people’s sticky notes within their area, giving them an archive of history while also encouraging them to try new places.

How we built it

We utilized Firestore as a database to store and manage user data more efficiently. This project also allowed us to strengthen our full stack development skills by connecting an engaging front end with an organized backend.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we ran into was setting up authentication for the Firestore backend, as we were new to it and it took time to properly configure. Coordinating between the frontend and backend teams was also challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to complete a solid application within 24 hours, building an engaging and user-friendly front end while successfully connecting it to an organized backend.

What we learned

We learned how to utilize Firestore as a more efficient way to store data and strengthened our full stack development skills throughout the process. We also learned how to communicate and coordinate between the frontend and backend teams

What's next for StickyWorld

We plan to implement more features related to sticky note discovery, such as allowing users to filter locations by specific categories, prompts and enabling users to delete sticky notes.
