Inspiration

Sticker Weather was inspired by the all-too-familiar struggle of figuring out what to wear when the weather is unpredictable. We wanted to create something fun, simple, and stress-free for people who find traditional weather apps overwhelming or dull. With the playful charm of stickers—quick, clear, and full of personality—we set out to build an app that makes weather forecasts not just useful, but actually enjoyable.

What it does

Sticker Weather takes the guesswork out of getting dressed by turning the forecast into a playful, personalized experience. With cute stickers that tell you exactly what to wear—whether it’s sunny, rainy, or UV-heavy—users get quick outfit suggestions and even packing tips, like when to grab an umbrella or sunscreen. And the fun doesn’t stop there: with a sticker pack store and wardrobe customizer, users can tweak their experience to fit their style, all while providing a smart way to keep the app engaging and sustainable.

How we built it

We’re a couple who turned our shared frustration with confusing weather apps into Sticker Weather, all from our dining room table. Lucy, the creative brain, not only hand-drew every sticker in Procreate but also designed the app and coded the UI. Meanwhile, Jacob, the tech wizard, built the foundation of the app, handling everything from setting up the core functionality to ensuring that the app runs smoothly and integrates seamlessly with external services. Together, we combined our strengths to create something fun, functional, and a little quirky.

Testing wasn’t just about coding—we spoofed our location to pretend we were in cities all over the world and actually wore the suggested outfits for our location to see if they worked! It was a journey full of trial, error, and laughs, figuring out how to make weather forecasts simple, fun, and stress-free.

Challenges we ran into

The heart of Sticker Weather lies in the algorithm—a deceptively simple solution to a complex problem. We had to strike the perfect balance between the current weather and the forecast for the day, all while distilling that information into just a few fun, engaging stickers. The challenge? Making sure the app feels effortless for the user, while behind the scenes, it’s doing some serious heavy lifting. It took a lot of trial, error, and late-night breakthroughs to make something that feels so simple work so smoothly!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the most exciting parts of building Sticker Weather was figuring out how to use SpriteKit to turn static stickers into a dynamic, interactive experience. Since we had never worked with SpriteKit before, it came with its fair share of technical challenges, but it was worth it. Adding playful animations brought the app to life, making it more engaging and fun for users. We’re proud that we tackled something new and found a way to add a little extra fun to an otherwise practical weather app!

What we learned

We quickly realized that simplicity is much harder to achieve than it seems—but when done right, it makes the app far more enjoyable. Users love the straightforward, playful experience, and their feedback through social media has been invaluable. In fact, we’ve already improved the free tier of the app based on comments we received within hours of posting! The response to our sticker packs has been overwhelming, so we’re hard at work creating more options for customization. We also found that SpriteKit added a dynamic touch, making the app more interactive. And honestly, RevenueCat has been a lifesaver—it’s made monetizing so much easier, allowing us to focus on making the app better instead of getting bogged down in technicalities.

What's next for Sticker Weather

We’re diving into more sticker customization options, giving users even more ways to make the app their own. On top of that, we’re exploring seasonal wardrobe advice and location-specific tips to make Sticker Weather even more relevant year-round. We’re also looking into expanding beyond iOS, so more people can benefit from the app. Our goal? To make Sticker Weather a go-to tool that’s as fun as it is functional—while continuing to refine and expand based on user feedback.
