Inspiration

So many people have stickers on their laptop, basically advertising their personality publicly on their lid. But what is that personality exactly?

What it does

Take a picture of your friend's laptop lid which is full of stickers from the Scannur Space app and get their personality profile instantly. You are only one picture and one click away!

How we built it

We use machine learning through Google Cloud and AWS tools to analyze the picture taken on the Scannur Space app. We combine these insights and set it as input for the NLP function of IBM Watson API, which creates a detailed personality report. We then use these results to create our own custom personality report inside the Sticker Trait mobile app. The app was built using Android Studio.

Challenges we ran into

It was particularly tricky to figure out how to maximize the accuracy of the personality based on the stickers. A huge part of the challenge lies on the extraction of insights from the stickers themselves. How we battled this was with the use of both Google Cloud and AWS to let the best of both worlds be combined for optimal results. A second key challenge was the entertaining and humorous character of the user experience. We easily solved this with focused team brainstorming sessions throughout the day, which produced enormous laughter and great results, as obvious in the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have implemented one of the best - if not the first - and accurate personality extractor from a laptop lid full of stickers. In addition, the UX is extremely appealing to Gen Z, fun and sweetly sleek.

What we learned

Not only did we explore Google Cloud and AWS deeper than ever before, but also dived into the capabilities that NLP tools such as IBM Watson have to offer. We also learned to better streamline and prioritize tasks on scrum

What's next for Scannur Space

We have designed our platform and back-end in such a way, so that it can be used to scan any type of area and create a profile of anything that has stickers on it from your fridge full of magnets, to your bedroom full of posters. Whatever it is, Scannur Space can live up to its name and scan your space!
