Inspiration
Most chore-tracking and shared calendar apps feel like enterprise ticketing systems—cold, rigid, and tedious. But shared living—whether with a partner, family, or roommates—is deeply personal. It should feel collaborative, encouraging, and delightful.
We built Stewardie to replace household friction and mental load with harmony, tactile charm, and clear communication.
What It Does
Stewardie is an everyday shared-life companion structured around three core pillars:
- Shared Spaces & Responsibilities: Create shared spaces (home, apartment, family) where chores and plans aren’t just assigned, but requested, claimed, and celebrated. Tasks support photo verification proof and handoffs.
- Little Moments & Mood Check-Ins: A private daily feed for shared victories, photo memories with bespoke clay television framing, and one-tap emotional check-ins to stay connected.
- Privacy-First Live Location: Voluntary, time-bounded (15, 30, or 60 minutes) temporary location sharing on interactive maps with automatic expiration.
- Stewardie Plus (Powered by RevenueCat): A fair, transparent subscription tier ($4.99/mo or $39.99/yr) that belongs to the individual subscriber across all their spaces. Plus unlocks up to 20 spaces, unlimited task history, and multi-photo attachments, while ensuring Basic members always retain access to complete tasks and participate freely.
How We Built It
- Frontend / Client: Built in Flutter with a completely bespoke Soft Pop pastel clay design system—featuring warm cream surfaces, custom clay cards, spring physics, and 10 custom synthesized acoustic sound effects.
- Monetization (RevenueCat): Integrated using
purchases_flutterfor seamless subscription lifecycle management, entitlement verification (stewardie_plus), and non-intrusive paywalls. - Backend & Real-Time Sync: Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore for live state synchronization, with strict security rules governing quota enforcement and role boundaries.
- Media Pipeline: Supabase Storage & Edge Functions for photo verification attachments and Moments media handling.
Challenges We Faced
- Fair Monetization Architecture: We refused to use hostile paywalls that lock other household members out. Designing the entitlement model so a Plus subscription belongs to an individual across multiple spaces without breaking the experience for free invited members required deliberate architecture.
- High-Performance Tactile UI: Achieving a soft claymorphic depth without sacrificing 60 FPS mobile performance required custom painters and avoiding heavy nested shadows.
- Real-Time Quota Optimization: Balancing continuous collaborative streams with cloud database quotas led us to design custom avatar caching and efficient storage URL pipelines.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
- Over 210+ comprehensive automated tests validating onboarding tours, offline fallbacks, RevenueCat purchase states, and accessibility layouts.
- Zero generic template aesthetics—every screen, chip, button, sound effect, and clay frame was custom-crafted.
- A functional, end-to-end RevenueCat subscription flow that feels native and rewarding.
What We Learned
Integrating RevenueCat taught us the importance of clean separation between client-side purchase states, store sandboxes, and server-side entitlement reconciliation. We also learned how positive micro-interactions and transparent pricing build immediate user trust.
