One of our teammate have experienced destress as he was not skilled enough to take nice photo of his girlfriend while they were having a date. Although the girlfriend did not blame him explicitly, our teammate can still feel a sense of dissappointment from his girlfriend. Because of this, both parties' mood were affected. Such experience resonant in our team as we are all males in our early 20s and we often will need to take photo of girls who are around our age, who will have higher expectation as they want to post photos on social media.

So, we created STEVE which is an application that can help to plan how to take a photo and guide the photographer to adjust angle, guide the model to adjust their post accordingly. They do not need to think or train their photography skill, they simply follow, be stress-free and produce good photo together!

We build the application with expo go as our frontend platform and use node.js for our backend, and RekaAI as our third party AI to give constructive feedback to guide the photo taking process.

We ran into issues like slow reaction time as the application need to give instant real time feedback for smooth user experience. Also, the feedback from RekaAI tends to be lengthy which is not ideal for user experience too, but we managed to overcome it.

We are proud of our user interface, being thoughtful and inclusive, using silhouette instead of pretty instagram model which may cause models to be unconfident to use the application. In general, we make the UI very user friendly and smooth to use.

We are a relatively new team in terms of hackathon experience. We learned a lot on how to work as a team and how to split duties and manage time properly, which is definitely a very important skill for software development.

STEVE has much more potential to grow function wise. We can expand into more styles, poses, and finish our original plan: a feature that allows user to upload a moodboard for us to analyse and guide them to achieve similar results. Also, we can further train the model to give better and faster feedback to be capable of producing nicer photos. We can also make our camera more smart, auto-adjusting the camera's configuration like exposure, brightness and just helping the cameraman to zoom in and out.
