Inspiration
There was an open-source project to make a 3-dimensional tool controller, and at Science Hack Day Oregon I met a scientist who wanted a one-dimensional tool to do the same thing
What it does
Moves microscopic distances over several minutes
How I built it
Raspberry Pi -> stepper control -> geared stepper motor
Challenges I ran into
Controlling the Raspberry Pi was a nightmare! Ended up switching to the arduino, which meant managing a bunch of inputs and outputs manually
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Getting serialized data output and 10-button input working through the arduino
What I learned
how to manage big complex controls in C
What's next for Stereotactic probe control
First version with timing control: https://twitter.com/tobyfee/status/788892330220593152 I've built three versions of the controller with probably two more before I finish the device!
