Inspiration
As a team of high schoolers, we all felt pressure to get into a get good college. We know we're not the only ones who face this pressure. So to ease the pressure and improve students chances, we've decided to create a college acceptance calculator based on the students statistics.
What it does
StepUp, is the step up to your dream higher education. All you do is enter your transcript, and your essay. Our systematic algorithm that uses AI compares your statistics to the colleges common data set. Based of that, we can then accurately decide the chance of you getting in. Ensuring that you can predict where you're actually going to be attending.
How we built it
StepUp was built in Flask + HTML + Franken UI. We also used Figma for design, and google docs for our documentation. The OpenAI API was also used for some parts
Challenges we ran into
We were having problems creating our judgment algorithm, and we eventually agreed on an accurate one. The data parsed via OCR built into the GPT API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some accomplishments that we're proud of are how we worked well as a team even though this was the first time we met some of the other members. Another thing were proud of is how we managed to create a product that has the potential to changes the lives of millions of high schoolers.
What we learned
We learned how to work together as a team, but we also learned how to use OCR and Franken UI. Most of us also had no experience with figma and OpenAI prior to this hackathon, we learned how to use these frameworks in the future.
What's next for StepUp
We're looking to expand on the educator accounts, because of as of now, they're very simple. But we also want to bring this powerful technology to as many people as we can. We are truly passionate about this product, and we truly love it. We hope you feel the same.
Documentation
Our team spent multiple hours making a great documentation that we encourage all judges & others to read. Visit it here
