Inspiration

Based on an old flash game a colleague of mine made when he was 13 we blew some new life in to it and made it native to iOS.

What it does

It's a puzzle game where you are required to find the right sequence of moves for tiles across a grid that allows you to reach the final target tile with one move so it hits exactly on the target.

How we built it

Built using SwiftUI and a python script to generate levels for easy, medium and hard. We have a lot of logic to evaluate and solve generated levels so that the puzzles are challenging, diverse and fun.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a way to generate the daily levels was by far the hardest part. We had to create some kind of server side mechanic so we are not reliant on app store updates to create or adjust level logic. We wanted to be flexible in the game logic and the levels presented to the user.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The versioning logic of the game means that we can allow the user to give feedback, adjust levels and even allow for historic playback of any level all managed server side. This was quite a challenge architecturally so definitely most proud of that part.

What we learned

What's next for Steppin Stones

More levels, new mechanics and distribution of the app to the masses!
