Inspiration
We tried to think of interesting ways to spice up the more mundane parts of our lives, and we came to the conclusion that basic exercises are way too boring. We decided to make them more like a story based game, which led us to our current idea.
What it does
StepQuest is a website that gives users exercise routines in the form of "Quests". These quests have a set of exercises with counters to track them, but more significantly, also tells a story to the user as they are doing the exercise. These stories are accompanied by pictures and when they are completed, can award trophy achievements, depending on how quickly the user finished their exercise routine. The stories and the trophy rewards for completing them can make exercises more fun and feel more like a game.
How we built it
We built the website with react for the frontend, express and mongoose for the API, and mongoDB for the database. We also used various images from Unsplash.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge that we ran into was styling the user interface in the way that we wanted. Often times it would not come out as we expected but in the end we got it to a really good state.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We really liked how the user interface turned out and how the backend works. This was Aryan's first time doing backend so I am proud of the fact that it works without issues.
What we learned
Aryan learned how to use the backend and Tijil learned how to properly use Css. This was Tijil's first time doing a hackathon seriously so he is really proud of how the interface turned out, especially the quest dashboard, homepage, and login/signup pages.
What's next for Step Quest
We want to add various API's from Google Fit, Healthkit, Fitbit, and more to automatically track exercises for the user.
