This was not submitted to Hardware Hackfest.

I ran into some issues and as such have removed my submission from hardware hackfest. I have also informed MLH of the change.

Twilio

Twilio was used extensively in this project. It was used for user authentication, and the chatbot interface over SMS and WhatsApp. Working with a new technology with such amazing documentations was amazing, and I didn't run into a single issue throughout my time with it, so go Twilio!

Inspiration

According to UNESCO, more than 130 million girls were already being denied education before COVID-19 hit, and the pandemic has worsened the situation. Moreover, women are underrepresented in STEM professions, especially in AI development, where they face various barriers and biases. Breaking the Gender Gap is necessary to attain sustainability (SDG 5: Gender Equality)

What it does

The AI chat system aims to empower women and girls by providing them with information, guidance, and mentorship on STEM topics and careers. The AI uses natural language processing and machine learning to understand and respond to user queries in a friendly and conversational manner. The chat application also provides a student with inspirational stories from leading women in STEM to let them know that they are not alone. The chat system also connects users with relevant resources and opportunities, such as online courses, scholarships, internships, or events.

How we built it

We built it using Flask and an extensive use of Twilio in the backend. Twilio is used for authentication and demo of the app on Whatsapp.

Challenges we ran into

I was ill during the project and so had to make it in extremely less time.

What's next for Stemly

There is a whole lot of stuff next for Stemly, from adding more options and APIs, to providing translation and offline services.
