Inspiration
As a teenager interested in STEM, I find it difficult to find other women in computer science and other tech fields to connect with and look up to as the field is male-dominated. So, I created STEMConnect to help women in STEM connect to build a community.
What it does
STEMConnect has many different features. First, it prompts the user to log in and their name is used throughout the website for a personal touch. Then the user creates a profile based on different details about themselves that the website uses to suggest matches. The user can match with others. There is also a leaderboard and goals section to help encourage the user to continue to match and connect with others.
How I built it
I built the website using react.js, HTML, CSS (specifically tailwindcss), and javascript.
Challenges I ran into
This was my first big project using javascript, so I ran into problems with using arrays/lists, local storage, etc. However, I am glad I ran into these challenges as it helped me learn more about javascript and its different uses!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I thought that this project was very ambitious, so I am proud I was able to bring all my ideas to life!
What I learned
I learned a lot about react.js and javascript and how to take inputs and push them to local storage as an array.
What's next for STEMConnect
I hope to expand STEMConnect and for it to include more features in the future. I also want to dive deeper into its current features to see how they can be improved!
