We are building CBC Science Hub to support learners who are in schools willing to integrate digital literacy in the science-based teaching and learning following governments recent declaration of CBC.

Inspiration

we are science students-teachers currently in our final year of studies before we officially enter the teaching field as our career pathways. During our third year we were placed by our university on school practicum. During our practical teaching service, where we aimed to apply our three years of university training, we observed that while the government had distributed tablets to nearly all schools, their usage was not clearly defined. Consequently, most schools stored them away. Additionally, most school did not have the laboratories to undertake practical. As these two issues hit our schools the government further emphasizes acquisition of competency skills. This why we came up with this idea.

What it does

The web app allows students to undertake practical via simulated guide of Gemini 3 tutor guide, they record observation as after every step and them do the assessment after every practical and submit to the teacher. As they undertake the practical, the Gemini 3 will also monitor any difficulty faced by the students and submits it to teacher for further help bringing individualized learning and help. After submission teacher receives the result from students practical as Gemini 3 AI helps in marking. Teacher can then get report of individual learning difficulties and then do a follow up to help learner. This brings inclusive learning and supports government goal for education.

How we built it

We used Gemini ai studio to bring our project to life. We only had the plan and build it. and now we are planning to deploy it via vercel since we have all the required environments.

What's next for STEM MENTORS

Our next goal is to win the hackathon, secure sufficient financing and talk to developer experts to improve our apps security and storage system then we do the pilot after which we rolout fully functional system.
