Inspiration

StellarSTEM is a platform to inspired by our experiences as women in STEM and the experiences of women around us.

What it does

StellarSTEM empowers its users to look at success stories, support women in STEM.

How we built it

We built this app using JavaFX application

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with memory handling and we figure because we import too many gifs that make the files heavy; we overcame by converting them to images.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to utilize canvas to incorporate gifs to our designs, this made the front end part easier and more time friendly. We discovered many awesome libraries that Java and Java fx had such as webView and getEngine. Very importantly, two of our team members used Java for their first time, it was a great learning opportunity for them.

What we learned

We were able to use our knowledge to highlight minorities in STEM and their accomplishments. We are proud of the way our platform leverages existing information and provides resources to underrepresented communities.

Next for StellarSTEM

Our hope is that StellarSTEM grows and becomes a powerful resource for women in STEM when looking for inspiration, role models, success stories, and events where it is guaranteed that they are welcome.
