Inspiration

The inspiration behind "Stellar Savings" stems from a crucial observation: many adults face financial challenges due to a lack of early financial education. Recognizing this gap, we sought to craft a solution that not only addresses this issue but does so in a manner that resonates with children. In essence, the inspiration behind Stellar Savings is the belief that by empowering children with financial knowledge and skills in a fun and interactive way, we can pave the way for a future generation that is more financially responsible and savvy.

What it does

The concept was to merge the engaging nature of games with the foundational principles of financial management, creating an environment where children are motivated to learn about saving, budgeting, and setting financial goals. The idea was to transform the often daunting subject of finance into an enjoyable and interactive learning experience, making it accessible and appealing to a younger audience. By incorporating gamification, Stellar Savings aims to capture children's natural curiosity and love for play, turning the process of learning about money into a fun adventure. This approach not only makes financial education more engaging but also helps instill healthy financial habits that can last a lifetime.

How we built it

We used React alongside Tailwind CSS as our guiding stars. React, with its component-based architecture, offered us the canvas to paint our interactive elements, while Tailwind CSS promised a palette of utility-first styles to bring vibrancy and responsiveness to our design.

We were able to create a highly functional prototype for Stellar Savings, accomplishing most of our core functionality in addition to a visually appealing user interface.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was with the time constraint; what parts of the app should we focus on, and what should we leave as a concept?

What's next for Stellar Savings

We plan to create in-app incentives to further help users work towards their financial goals. In addition, we aim to create a robust curriculum to cover a wide range of financial concepts tailored to different age groups.

We also plan to work with schools to help reach more youth and help educate them in financial literacy, and partner with financial institutions to link savings accounts to our app.
