✨ Inspiration
The inspiration came from the essential workers themselves and Cafe Maddy Cab, who originally made this idea but it was mainly for the Asians. I made this project for them because they inspire me to be a better person. Their hard works are very motivational. The name stellar is something related to stars and it also means exceptional or outstanding which is one of the characteristics of the frontline workers.
😯 What it does
It reimburses the taxi services fee of a frontline worker who has no disposable income to pay for it on a daily basis so that they won't be using public transportation, and it will reduce their frustrations and stresses. They will have to fill up the form on the website and the information they will input there will be sent to our discord server via webhook. This way we will be able to review their form and see if everything is valid. Once everything is checked and approved, we will then reimburse their cab fee.
🚧 How I built it
It's mainly built with javascript and with the use of react.js framework. I used CSS and SCSS for styling the whole site. I also used node.js for the dependencies I use such as animations for the site, service worker, and more to make the site scalable, fast, and smooth.
😣 Challenges I ran into
The first challenge I ran to was the request form, I was struggling to make it switch from a page to another. As well as saving the user information without the database and only with JSON files was a real challenge. Even though I mainly work with front-ends all the time, this project hits different and is just quite harder to style overall.
🎖️ Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am very proud for finishing this project in just a short period of time and doing it all by myself was the biggest accomplishment I've done on this project. I am this type of person who doesn't want to work alone and I always work with a team, but this time I wanted to challenge myself and face the fact that I have to do this by myself, and I did it.
🎯 What I learned
I've learned a lot in this project and I never thought I would. First, I rarely work with the back-end before but this project pushed me to my limits and just made me realize that I should go out of my comfort zone and just explore those things that I am curious about, and I did. I have successfully made the request form that I never thought would be able to finish. Second, I worked with something I haven't done before. SCSS. I wanted more challenges so I could learn more things in web development. It's my first time using SCSS and it was also quite a challenge and I am very fortunate that I do have a lot of knowledge about CSS, so that was a positive side. Lastly, again, I've done something I haven't before. Service worker. This is something that would maintain the site running in the background even if you're offline. It was fun to go explore new things and I've enjoyed it.
💯 What's next for Stellar
I will most likely maintain this site and actually reimburse and help the frontline workers after saving enough money to start it. I will improve add more things to the site to make it better and responsive. As well as explore more things so that I could learn.
