Our inspiration: What is desire? de·sire (noun) A strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen. To better understand desire, we created a matrix and categorized desire as developing from either a lack or a desire for abundance. However, not all desires are harmful, such as hunger, which keeps you alive. We scaled different desires based on the amount of helpfulness or harm. Some desires are neutral, such as the occasional coffee order.
Problem Statement: College students transitioning into society struggle to recognize and understand their own desires, leaving them vulnerable to being driven by negative desires that erode their mental and emotional well-being, manifesting as self-doubt, anxiety, and behaviors that work against their own health.
What does it do?: Stellar Minds is a digital journal that opens with a compatible biometric necklace to monitor desire patterns over time, translating your body’s signals into trackable data and guiding you with gentle prompts for self‑reflection. By helping users recognize when their desires are supportive versus when they may be tipping into harmful or self-eroding feelings, Stellar Minds empowers them to pause, reflect, and protect their emotional well-being.
How It Works: a. The Device: Biometric Wearable Device (Track and Measure Desire) 1. HRV & heart rate monitoring. 2. Skin conductance (stress/arousal) 3. Temperature fluctuation sensing. 4. Gentle haptic vibration feedback b. The Journal (Our Interface) 1. Discover: Device senses desire and other biometric shifts → vibrates gently to alert the user 2. Inform: View the journal for the user’s inner universe, where different desire planets are sized by the intensity of that desire. 3. React and Reflect: User explores the planet, reads a reflection, journals, or activates Defense Mode for guidance
What's next for Stellar Minds: Develop a prototype for user testing and get feedback from target users to refine designs and features Look into scientific research in tracking desire to see if it’s possible to actually track desire in the future Plan for integration with existing wellness tools and apps Expanding our wearable device design to include more gender neutral and masculine options
