Inspiration
I started building my bot while I was in college for fun. I just enjoyed making it say funny things.
What it does
Now that I have worked on it for a while, I see a lot of potential. My end goal is to make Stebe not only be able to do data collection but also apply deductive logic and inductive inferencing to the data he collects and be able to make his own conclusions based on this data. At the moment my bot specializes in learning through interaction and has a synonym system that makes for a wide variety of responses. If taught correctly, it will never say the same thing twice and can move to the realm of having hundreds of thousands of possible responses within a very short time due to the exponential nature of random combinations and a similarity algorithm that allows for a wider scope of recognition. Stebe is really less of a bot and more of a tool for bot creation. Eventually, my goal is to make him into more of a chatterbot centered programming language.
How I built it
My bot is built in python3 and python27 and makes use of simple shelve databases.
Challenges I ran into
Getting my bot to run efficiently and working out ever present bugs was an ongoing challenge but I have finally reached a stable prototype for my future research into integrating deductive and inductive logic.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of my bots ability to learn about the people that it interacts with and its ability to be completely unpredictable at times.
What I learned
I have learned a lot from my bot. It has humbled me and shown me how far we really are from reaching true A.I.
What's next for Stebe the learning bot
I am currently working on logical inferences that will allow my bot to draw new information form what data it collects. I also want to create a trust system were by the bot learns who it can trust and who it cant, so as to avoid being taught racist and bigoted responses and information. I also wish to implement the ability to apply synonyms to built in commands and thus move Stebe closer to being a chatterbot programming language. There is still a lot of work to be done before I even consider setting him loose on the web and seeing what he grows into. At this point, he is your usual regurgitation bot and is prone to just mimicking the people he talks too. I am still building the set of defining principles that will be his internal will.
