Inspiration
Steampunk inspired us because we think it’s a visually rich and imaginative style. The idea of blending old-world aesthetics with mechanical chaos felt like the perfect fit for a fast-paced, competitive survival game.
What it does
Steam Runners Battle is a steampunk survival adventure where players collect parts "gears", battle NPCs and rivals, and race to repair their Zeppelin before time runs out. The goal is simple: fix your ship and take to the skies before you're grounded forever.
How we built it
We built the game using the Meta Horizon Desktop Editor, which allowed us to create immersive environments and gameplay systems. Along the way, we also learned a new coding language a typescript tailored for the platform, allowing for deeper interactivity and customization.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was working with the Meta Horizon Desktop Editor in its early development stages. The tool itself is still evolving, which meant we faced unexpected bugs and platform instability things would sometimes break without clear reason, forcing us to adapt quickly and stay flexible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the technical hurdles, we’re proud that we created a gameplay concept that’s genuinely fun even when we test it ourselves. It’s satisfying, fast-paced, and has the potential to grow into something players will come back to.
What we learned
This project taught us the value of resilience pushing through bugs, platform limits, and iteration loops to create something engaging. We also sharpened our skills in new code environments and gained hands-on experience in VR development.
What's next for Steam Runners Battle
We’re working on new levels, seasonal content packs, and implementing leaderboards to foster player competition and community engagement. This is just the beginning of the adventure!
