Venture capital has an alignment problem. Startups raise a large lump sum each round, but the money comes before the results. A company can close a round and then miss its targets for users, traction, revenue or growth, and by then the investor’s money is already committed. Founders feel pressure to oversell, and investors bet mostly on a pitch.
We built Steadily to fix that. Instead of one big check, investment is released as milestone payments: capital comes in as the company shows real progress. Founders are rewarded for growth, and investors can “know what changed before your next check.” Our goal is simple: fund with clarity, follow the traction.
What it does Steadily is a fundraising workspace with two sides of the same company:
Founder view: founders share their traction and milestones and unlock funding as they hit them. Investor view: investors see a portfolio of their companies and what has changed in each one, set their preferences, and decide on the next payment based on progress, not promises. AI chatbot: an assistant built into the platform answers questions from both founders and investors, such as how milestone payments work or where a company stands. How we built it We learned that you can build a real product by telling an AI coding agent what you want. We used Lovable to design and launch our landing page and waitlist. Then we defined our target user personas and used Codex to build the product around our concept, business value and visual appeal. We described each feature, reviewed what Codex generated, and kept iterating until the founder and investor experiences matched what we had in mind. We also built an API that connects the chatbot to the platform.
Challenges we faced Our biggest challenge was building the API that powers the chatbot. Founders and investors ask very different questions, so the assistant had to understand who was asking and answer in the right context. Connecting it to the platform reliably took a lot of debugging and iteration. We also had to design one product that worked for two audiences with different priorities: investors want oversight and comparison, while founders want clarity and motivation.
What we learned AI-assisted development changes what a small team can ship. By describing what we wanted to Codex and Lovable, we went from idea to a working, deployed product within a single hackathon. Clear prompts lead to better products. The more precisely we described the business value and user experience, the better the output. Incentive design matters. Researching how VC rounds are structured showed us how much better outcomes could be when money is tied to milestones. What’s next We plan to open the platform to founders and investors on our early-access waitlist, add verified traction data from integrations, and create standard templates for milestone-based agreements.
