Inspiration

We watched Samuel Jackson's video called Staythefxxxathome thought it was funny. We thought everyone else was doing some serious stuff so we tried to add a little sense of humor.

What it does

We give people some fun challenges they can do at home. They can watch famous people doing those and upload their own videos. We also let local businesses to sponsor those challenges with for example coupons. We think this could encourage people to stay at home & help small local businesses.

How I built it

I build the backend API with django and django rest framework. I also deployed the stack on AWS with docker + fargate.

Challenges I ran into

It was our first hackarton, and we think we should have planned before we started. We spent too much time planning than actually build it.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I worked with my teammates and we fully enjoyed it!. The experience itself is pretty valuable to me.

What I learned

Communicating on short deadlines.

What's next for Staythefxxxathome

I'm not sure if it will pick up, but we will fix some bugs and try twisting Samuel Jackson. Who knows? He can help us go viral Haha. Development wise, we will fix some bugs and maybe work on adding chat apps + geolocation feature (we originally thought about allowing people to use the app ONLY at home - opening the app elsewhere would give them the Samuel's four-letter word memes.)

Updates

posted an update

We've updated a few things like checking users' geolocation, updating the challenges list daily with crawlers. If you are interested, you can either download it from the link below or go check out the codes in github.

Not sure if we will actually launch it though: it seems we are nearing the end of self-quarantines, or at least in South Korea. But overall it was fun and a nice little breakaway experience for our team :)

We will be working on adding chat rooms per challenge + geolocation over the next weekend, and then launch it on google playstore next week! Unfortunately, we just have too much work during the week days :(
