Inspiration

Studying at Brown meant rain. A lot of rain. Thanks to the New England weather, the weather is often quite unpredictable. This meant you should always be prepared and well-equipped to handle rainy and windy conditions.

What it does

Our app, StayDry, aims to aid people by providing umbrellas located around the city. It shows the various locations where umbrellas are present (turquoise for available, red for not available). Umbrellas can be easily picked and dropped at any location by scanning the QR code available near the specified locations.

How we built it

We built it using Figma and our absolutely adorable logo was made using Adobe Photoshop.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first hackathon and first time using Figma, so we took some time getting comfortable with the software and exploring the various possibilities. Another challenge was figuring out the logistics of how an umbrella can be picked and dropped. We had to ensure that the umbrellas could only be accessed by those using the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of participating in our first hackathon and using Figma for the first time. Moreover, we are proud of developing an app that is helpful for the community as a whole and helps people continue with their day despite unfavorable weather.

What we learned

We learned about Figma.

What's next for StayDry

We are hoping to incorporate a system where a reminder is sent to the user incase they haven't returned the umbrella after a certain period of time like two hours. Add the bear as an indicator for current location. When umbrella is picked up, the bear will be holding the umbrella! Add notifications that it's going to rain.
