Inspiration
People are not familiar with how their behaviour impacts the community around them. By building the Stay Safe app we think we can show people a direct impact on how you can positively impact the community you live in by showing you how many lives you saved
The problem your project solves Stay Safe helps people understand how their behaviour impacts the community around them. You'll get answers like how many lives you saved and what is the possibility to get infected. On top of that, you can see how your community is also acting in times like this.
What it does
The application helps people see how their behaviour impacts the community around them thus giving them a sense of responsibility for themselves and others. Social distancing will stay as a measure until there is a cure, and it is very important to continue working on the motivation of the whole population, and Stay Safe is helping remind people why they are distancing and how to lower the impact after the lockdowns are lifted.
The solution you bring to the table
Stay safe app tracks user locations and by users’ activity assigned scores like saved lives, how many lives you saved by staying at home. In addition, it gives a score like infection score where the user can see how safe he/she is from infection.
All of this comes from location data. To make things interesting, all users can get rewards and incentives by acting responsibly. To get things even more engaging you can see how your community is acting. You can view top users, users who saved most lifes, and you can see your position in your community. All of this is made to engage users, give them a sense of responsibility, and match their behaviour to others.
Application has four screens: Home Home screen shows users score: Saved Lives score: how many lives you saved by acting responsibly and staying home. Infection exposure score: score which says according to users behaviour users possibility to get infected. Higher the score user is more likely to get infected Also, there is availability of options like stay safe tips and tricks. This shows how to stay home and fill time with useful activities like washing hands, staying hydrated and watching positive news.
Stats Stats screen shows how other users behave in the community. You can compare your scores with others, you can see your place within the community and much more information like how many users are staying home, commuting, or are in public places.
Rewards By using gamification we engage users to win rewards by acting responsibly. For example, you can collect badges which show your responsibility. By sharing these badges on social networks you can impact others to do the same. Rewards tab shows what kind of rewards you collected by acting responsibly.
Profile This is a user profile with all statistics needed for the user to understand his behaviour. How much time he is home, commuting or any other activity like using phone, sleeping etc.... In addition, a user can get a suggestion on his behaviour how to improve and how to
The solution’s impact on the crisis The application helps people see how their behaviour impacts the community around them thus giving them a sense of responsibility for themselves and others. Social distancing will stay as a measure until there is a cure, and it is very important to continue working on the motivation of the whole population, and Stay Safe is helping remind people why they are distancing and how to lower the impact after the lockdowns are lifted.
How I built it
Right now we have built the concept but we have developers ready to build it. The application will be available on Apple Store and Google Play.
Challenges I ran into
The main challenge was technical, we need approval from the user to use his location so we can track users behaviour. Also, gamification is based on two things: comparing users' score with community, rewarding behaviour with badges and/or some rewards like subscriptions or vouchers.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are really really proud of building the entire concept from scratch.
What I learned
We learned that you can be a great team working from home and staying safe :)
What's next for Stay Safe
Next is building the app and promoting it on app stores. In order to continue the project, we need more time in order to develop a working app and prepare all the gamification mechanisms, connections to the best tip providing sites for amusement, cooking, exercise, the best advice for what to do with specific symptoms and medical confirmation of algorithms behind the saved lives and infection exposure score. Depending on the countries where the app would go live, it would be good to have international partners such as various store chains, different production companies for things most people use and other sponsors complementing the goal of the app. Mainstream media sponsorship in distributing the application will also help get the necessary amount of users in order for the app to be successful. In Croatia, we had a nice example of this where the media helped spread the word on a virtual assistant, and in Croatia, there were over 50.000 users/conversions within a day after the launch.
