The Stay in the Blue app allows students to monitor both their BAC levels over the course of any drinking experience – from Friday nights to football Saturdays. Building upon the University of Michigan's Stay in the Blue program, which designates levels of intoxication into 'color zones,' the app is a tangible way to help students educate themselves on the effects of alcohol.

Unlike common BAC calculators, Stay in the Blue allows students to keep track of their drinking in real-time so that they know the moment they move out of the Blue and into the Maize or the Red. The app also allows students to view their long-term drinking statistics, get a cab home, or find fun things to do in Ann Arbor.

We recognize that the app have an impact only if students know about it. The app will be heavily marketed to University of Michigan students in the Fall, thanks to help from Michigan legend Desmond Howard, a long-time supporter of the Stay in the Blue program. Desmond is featured in a series of video spots and print ads, which will be distributed around campus. We are also holding a competition, dubbed "Desmond Howard's #1 Fan Draft," in which students can enter to win two box-seat tickets to a Michigan football game by downloading the app and registering with their Michigan ID. We believe that these efforts will get the app in the pockets of as many students as possible, where we know it will have a huge impact on the drinking behavior of students across campus.
