Medical question‑answering (QA) systems are becoming indispensable in clinical and research settings, helping users navigate the overwhelming volume of biomedical literature. PubMedQA is a curated dataset of roughly 1,000 biomedical questions, each paired with expert‑annotated answer passages from PubMed abstracts and a final yes/no/maybe conclusion. Despite their growing influence, current QA systems often fail to make their reasoning transparent. In evidence‑based medicine, how an answer is supported—and how confidently—is just as important as the answer itself. Understanding the statistical structure of the evidence behind these QA pairs can reveal where biomedical reasoning is strong, ambiguous, or systematically biased.
