Inspiration
Indian startup founders often struggle to understand which registrations, licenses, and compliance steps apply to them. We built Startup Saathi to turn complex government and regulatory information into simple, actionable guidance for founders.
What it does
Startup Saathi is an AI assistant that helps users ask startup-related legal and compliance questions in natural language. It retrieves relevant information from government and policy documents, answers in a clear format, supports Indian languages, and generates a personalized checklist of required tasks.
How we built it
We built the solution on Databricks Free Edition using a data pipeline to ingest and organize regulation documents, a vector search layer for retrieval, and a Databricks App for the user interface. We also integrated a Databricks Job to automate the pipeline so the knowledge base can stay updated.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenges were working within Free Edition limits, structuring unorganized legal data, and making responses accurate and easy to understand. We also had to balance retrieval quality, multilingual support, and a smooth user experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built an end-to-end Databricks-based product with ingestion, retrieval, task generation, and an interactive app. The system makes complex startup compliance information easier to access and more practical for real users.
What we learned
We learned how to design a practical AI workflow on Databricks, connect pipelines with jobs and apps, and build a solution that stays useful even with resource constraints.
What's next for Startup Saathi
We plan to expand the document base, improve multilingual support, add better citation tracing, and make the compliance checklist more personalized for different business types.
