Inspiration

Product discovery should be something people enjoy and return to. StarTap combines a directory for indie projects with the progression of an incremental game.

What it does

Makers can submit projects for free, with public project pages, categories and website links. Visitors tap a 3D star to earn Stars, build automatic Sources, and compete on daily and all-time leaderboards while discovering apps. Guest play and core listings are free; optional boosts and Star packs are paid.

How we built it

StarTap was built primarily with Codex. The application uses Astro, TypeScript and React, with Three.js and React Three Fiber for the interactive star. It runs on Cloudflare, including Workers and D1.

Challenges and learning

The central design challenge is bringing a useful project directory and a satisfying incremental game together. The interface needs to make project discovery, tapping, Sources and leaderboards understandable without overwhelming newcomers.
