Inspiration
We wanted to create a fun 3D space game while exploring how to make gaming more accessible. People with physical disabilities may find using a keyboard difficult, so we wanted to experiment with webcam color tracking as an alternative way to control a game.
What it does
Starlight Interceptor is a 3D space game where players control a spaceship and navigate through space. It features keyboard controls, asteroids, a responsive space background, and webcam color tracking. Our goal is to explore alternative ways for people to interact with games.
How we built it
We used HTML to structure the game, CSS for styling and visual effects, and JavaScript with Three.js to create the 3D environment and spaceship movement. We also worked on connecting webcam color tracking to the controls.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was getting the spaceship movement and background effects to work together smoothly. We also had to work on integrating webcam tracking without interfering with the existing keyboard controls.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we created an interactive 3D game with multiple control options. We combined visual effects, spaceship movement, and webcam tracking into one project while exploring how technology can support more inclusive gaming.
What we learned
We learned how HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Three.js work together to create a browser-based game. We also learned about handling player input, building 3D environments, troubleshooting code, and designing with accessibility in mind.
What's next for Starlight Interceptor
In the future, we want to add more levels, new obstacles, and additional gameplay features. We also hope to improve webcam tracking and explore more accessible control options so that more players can enjoy the game.
