Inspiration
VTOL VR and Halo are 2 of our biggest inspirations. We also pull from military manuals, Airbus and Boeing design guides, and of course - 15+ years of game development experience.
What it does
You play in the cockpit of many ground and air vehicles. Push buttons, dial knobs, flip switches, tilt joysticks, all in an immersive VR cockpit with native VR controller support. Players will be able to play in Instant Action, Conquest, and more in both Singleplayer, Co-op, and PvP.
How we built it
We're building the game for Quest3 standalone in Unity.
Challenges we ran into
We are still developing the game, but no challenges are unique outside of normal game development. Multiplayer testing in VR is the most notable annoyance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Within the first week or two of development we already had a solid prototype. At the time, it was for a much bigger space simulator, but we toned down our scope. We are proud with the gameplay direction we're heading in, which is better scoped for the average Quest3 player's session time.
What we learned
We learned a lot about accessibility, immersion sickness (which is different to motion sickness) - but the game is still in an early prototype phase so there is more to learn.
What's next for Starfront VR
We take our prototype into production. We move fast, and we stay lean.
